TROIS RIVIERES, QC- Returning to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 for the second time in 2014, Gary Klutt turned heads on August 10th. The second-generation driver, in his Circuit de Trois-Rivieres debut, drove from 17th to 6th before a rear-end failure removed him from competition late in the ‘JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours’.
“I definitely would have loved to have found out just how many more spots we could’ve picked up”, smiled Klutt post-race. “It’s tough not being able to finish, but equipment failures happen and there’s not much you can do about it. We had a great car today”
The Halton Hills, ON driver qualified 17th out of 33 competitors, and wasted little time making his way through the pack on the demanding Trois-Rivieres street course.
“We understood coming into this event that we were going to have to learn on the fly”, explained Klutt. “I’ve never raced here before, so everything about this weekend was a new experience for me. I was still figuring out the track by the time we rolled for qualifying”
“Starting mid-pack, we knew we had some work to do, but our goal all day was to stay clean and get through traffic. Fortunately, we were able to do just that”
By lap-39, Klutt had meticulously worked his way to 6th, and was running lap times comparable to the top-3 when rear-end issues forced his No. 59 CTL Financing/Legendary Motorcar Chevrolet to the pit area.
“This car was phenomenal all weekend. And the more laps I laid down, and the more I got a feel for the track, the better we were”, said Klutt.
“Being able to run amongst some of the top drivers in this series – on a track I’ve never run at before – is a huge boost of confidence. This Legendary Motorcar team continues to give me fantastic equipment, and I can’t thank them enough”
Klutt will return to competition with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on August 31st when Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Gary Klutt’s 2014 program is powered by CTL Canada’s Vehicle Finance Company and Legendary Motorcar.
