MILTON, ON- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series rookie Gary Klutt will be back on an oval tonight, when his CTL Corp/TRAILCON No. 59 hits Edmonton International Raceway for the ‘Alberta Has Energy 300’.
Klutt has shown a knack for short track racing already in 2015, tallying 7th and 6th place finishes in Rounds 2 and 3 of the series at Autodrome Chaudiere and Sunset Speedway.
“At the beginning of this season – I would never have thought I’d be this excited for a short track race,” says Klutt, flashing a smile. “I’m looking forward to getting on track at Edmonton. It’s going to be a brand new experience for our team – so hopefully we can get it figured out in a hurry”
The second-generation star will enter the event just one marker removed from leading the points, after a very successful eight place finish in Round 4 of the series at Circuit ICAR on July 5th.
“ICAR was a good points day for us. It’s a really tough track to pass on – so I was happy to come home with a top-10 finish,” explains Klutt. “Especially when a lot of the guys we’re racing for a championship were behind us”
“Now, the goal is just to keep moving forward,” continues the well-spoken freshman. “We’re in a good spot right now, and I think if we can execute our game plan in these next two races, we could find ourselves leading the points for the second time this season”
The Alberta Has Energy 300 will mark the first of two races in five days for the series, and Klutt knows the result of these two events could have lasting impact on the second half of his 2015 season.
“The Western Swing is an incredibly pivotal point in the schedule. We want to be sure to score as many points as we can in these next two races to set us up for the second half of the schedule. If you dig yourself into a hole in these next two races – it could be really difficult to race your way out of it”
With back-to-back finishes in his first two oval appearances this season, it’s evident how confident Klutt is in the abilities of his family-run operation.
“Our oval program has been really good so far, and I think we have all the capabilities to be even better at Edmonton,” explains the rising star. “The guys have been working nonstop at the shop to make the improvements necessary – and I can’t wait to see how much better the car is out West.”
