HALTON HILLS, ON- Second-generation road racing star Gary Klutt is counting down the days to his Kawartha Speedway debut with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1.
The personable 22-year old will make his first career oval start with the national tour, at Kawartha Speedway’s ‘Pinty’s 250’ on Saturday, September 20th.
“It seems as though every race I do with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, I get more excited”, smiles Klutt. “Racing on an oval is a new challenge for me, but it’s one that I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while”
Klutt is currently riding a wave of momentum, after a head-turning 6th place performance at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 31st.
“Our Legendary Motorcar road-course program has been top-notch this season, the guys back at the shop have worked their hearts out to put us in quality equipment”, explains Klutt. “I think we all welcome the challenge of preparing an oval car for Kawartha. This is a brand new experience for me, but I have the best team in the business to guide me through it”
The former Karting standout recently tested at Kawartha Speedway alongside Driver Coach & Crew Chief John Fletcher, and acclimated himself to the 3/8 mile speed plant almost immediately.
“Kawartha’s an incredibly racey track”, says Klutt. “John [Fletcher] was a huge help bringing me up to speed. Before long, we were knocking down lap times that were comparable to what the front-running cars were managing in time trials at this race last season”
“It’s a huge shot of confidence to find speed that quickly, and I think I’ll actually be even more comfortable once I have the other cars around me to use as a gauge”
With 250-laps ahead of him, the Halton Hills, ON driver is well aware that strategy will be key in fashioning a strong performance.
“It’s one thing to come out and string together a few fast laps, but we’re really focusing on composing an entire race”, explains Klutt. “I need to be smooth the entire race, that’s the key. Pit stops and tire strategy are pretty important in a race like this. There’s a lot to get the hang of, but I’m confident in my team and excited for this opportunity”
The Pinty’s 250 is scheduled for Kawartha Speedway on Saturday, September 20th. Details, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.KawarthaSpeedway.com.
Gary Klutt’s Kawartha Speedway debut would not be possible without CTL Canada’s Vehicle Finance Company, www.IdentifyYourself.ca and Activate Drinks & AQUAhydrate – the official drinks of the CTL / LMC team.
