SOUTHAMPTON, ON- Pro Late Model rookie Nick Goetz will make his second career start with the upstart APC United Late Model Series at Flamboro Speedway on June 6th, and will be looking for a breakout performance after engine issues derailed his debut at Sunset Speedway on May 23rd.
“Round 1 of the tour was a tough pill to swallow for our whole team,” admits ‘Livewire’. “We had just finished the car virtually hours before it unloaded at the race track, and the gremlins seemed to follow us all day”
“These guys have worked so hard to put all of this together – and we couldn’t seem to catch a break. Between shaking down a brand new car and working through engine problems, it was far from the day we were hoping for”
“It bothered me the most because we didn’t get the chance to show how good our Pro Late Model program can be”
Entering Round 2 of the tour at Flamboro this Saturday, Goetz is more than willing to admit that he will be relying heavily on Crew Chief Rick McColl.
“Our Flamboro notebook is pretty sparse right now,” explains Goetz. “Rick has been a huge help in preparing me for this weekend, because I really don’t have a lot of laps around there”
“We know that it can be a tough place to pass at times, and it’s a track that will eat up your tires and brakes if you start to overdrive the car. To avoid that, Rick just keeps reminding us about patience and how we need to let the race come to us”
“We’re just hoping to stay out of trouble and have our car in one piece when everything is all said and done,” adds the fourth-year competitor.
“We’ll do our best to adapt to the track as the day goes on – and hope to capitalize on whatever opportunities come our way. 100-laps is a long time, and if we can preserve our equipment and keep our cool, I think we’ll have an excellent chance at a finish we can be proud of.”
