HAMILTON, ON- Open-wheel veteran Terry Baker will return to the OSCAAR Modified Tour for the second consecutive weekend this Saturday, as the tour invades Flamboro Speedway.
“It’s been way too long since I’ve been in something open-wheeled at Flamboro,” beams the one-time Pro4 Modified standout. “That place was home for a long, long time. And, even though I don’t get to be there as much as I want to these days, it’s still home”
“It’s one of my favourite speedways on the planet, and I hope these guys that were racing against know just how badly this team wants to win this thing”
When asked about Flamboro’s characteristics, Baker insists the track places a reliance on a car’s handling and ability to negotiate it’s tight corners.
“Flamboro is a driver’s track. Without question,” says Baker. “There’s so little grip that you can’t just rely on fresh rubber like some of the other places that we go to on this tour. If your car isn’t turning – and it doesn’t have a driver willing or able to get up on the wheel – you’re in a lot of trouble”
“It’s imperative to have a car that rolls the center at Flamboro,” adds Baker. “Without that, you’re in for a long night”
As a multi-time feature winner at the Hamilton-area facility, the OSCAAR tour sophomore will hope to rely on his experience at the speedway to give him a leg up on the talent-laden roster.
“I think it’s silly not to think that the Flamboro ex-pats have an advantage this weekend,” shrugs the well-spoken veteran. “There are guys on this roster that have put in a lot of work at this speedway, and have logged a ton of laps. It’s really tough to catch up to that”
“When we go to Sunset or Delaware, I’m at a bit of a disadvantage because I don’t have the same level of experience at these places than a lot of the other teams. But, at Flamboro, it’s our turn to enjoy a bit of an advantage. The trick is not to squander that.”
