Calabogie, Ontario, June 3, 2019 – Nestled deep in the beautiful Canadian Shield, Calabogie Motorsports Park saw fierce competition, rain and mechanical failures as CTCC presented by Pirelli featured their second event of the 2019 calendar.
On Saturday, Matthew Taskinen abord his No. 23 TRC/M1GT Audi RS3 LMS SEQ was dancing with Parker Thompson (No. 1 New Roads/Team Speedstar Audi R8 LMS GT4) at the beginning of Round 3 until he made a mistake that costed him the race. This misfortune ended up benefiting Jean-Francois Hevey (No. 21 TRC/M1GT Audi RS3 LMS DSG) who finished first in TCR class.
“I just made a silly mistake and drove off the corner 17 there. While I was getting back on track, I did something wrong and ended up breaking a part (half shaft) later on in the race,” said Taskinen while shaking his head.
“He’s my teammate (TRC/M1GT), so he got bad luck. He went out off the track and broke his car so that gave me the chance to be first. Bad for him, good for me!” Hevey said.
Taskinen was able to get the half shaft fixed and made his appearance for Round 4, where he took the third place in the TCR class.
Round 3 finishers were: Parker Thompson in first place of the GT Sport class followed by Rocco Marciello (No. 53 RMPCompetizione/BMW M235iR). The TCR class’ first place was taken by Jean-François Hevey followed by Bob Attrell (No. 88 Hyundai Canada Racing/Hyundai i30N) who stood second place on the podium. Travis Hill (No. 26 TWOth Autosport/Audi RS3 LMS DSG) finished in third place.
On Sunday, for Round 4 of the CTCC competition, teams and drivers finally got a break with good weather after rain poured heavily before they were signaled to get on the track. Gary Kwok started fourth with his No. 66 M&S Racing/Honda Civic Type R FK2 and ended up second overall. Early in the race, Lindsay Rice (No. 18 Rice Racing/M1GT Audi RS3 LMS TCR DSG) went off and ended up on the grass for a few moments before getting back on track, causing her to fall behind the pack. Attrell hounded Taskinen and forced an error on the last lap, leading to a second-place finish for Attrell.
This final session of the weekend presented very close competition between Kwok, Attrell, Taskinen, Hill and Hevey. The final results for TCR class show that Taskinen redeemed himself by making 3rd, with Attrell 2nd and Kwok hitting the number one spot. The GT Sport class finish was identical as the previous race with Thompson in first place followed by Marciello.
CTCC will make their next appearance at Shannonville Motorsport Park on June 29 & 30, 2019.
