ST. JOHN’S (September 12, 2017) – After two days of competition at the annual tarmac rally, the standings are beginning to take shape as to which teams will be contenders by the end of the event. With several lengthy stages on Tuesday, several teams were able to utilize their speed and driving skills to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

In Grand Touring, the Hume Media Inc. team is on top of the podium with the 2013 MINI G.P. of John Hume Sr. and navigator Christina Kroner of Ontario leading, be it by only three seconds, over their teammates Andrew and Ruth Thorogood of Ontario, in their 2006 MINI G.P. Only nine seconds back is the 2013 MINI Countryman of Craig MacMullen of Nova Scotia and David Jenkins of Ontario. This division will certainly have changes before the end of the week and is one to watch in the Targa.

In Classic division, the tie for first between Jack Rogers and navigator C.J. Strupp and the team of Bryan Bursey and navigator Martin Cadieux will continue into Wednesday.

In Modern division, a tie between the teams of John Hume Jr. and Kirk Jones for first has occurred, with the team of Harold Vanderschee only one second behind first place. The top five teams are separated only by twelve seconds and will continue to be an exciting division to watch.

In Open division, the team of Mark Rittenhouse is tied for first with the Newfoundland team of Josh Collins. These two teams have opened up a gap over the rest of the Open competitors, and they hope that continues with Wednesday stages.

The southern Bonavista Peninsula will be the location for stages on Wednesday, with stages occurring in Lethbridge, Brooklyn, Georges Brook, and Burgoyne’s Cove. The event will then move to the Conception Bay North area of the province for Thursday’s stages.
