@targanl •ST. JOHN’S (September 11, 2016) – Targa Newfoundland held its practice day in the communities of Flatrock and Bauline today. With over 50 competitors taking part, the non-timed stages are now completed.
Under sunny skies, the competitors completed the double stage in Flatrock without incident. One team had a mechanical issue, however it will not affect their ability to start tomorrow. Community spectators lined the roads to see the Fast Tour, Grand Touring, and Targa competitors try their hand at their towns tarmac.
Targa celebrated Flatrock volunteers during lunch at their community centre between stages, as they were commended for their fifteen years of involvement with this event. The first new stage of the event was held in the town of Bauline. Following the course, competitors raved about stage design, supporting spectators, and the beauty of the rally’s latest community addition. The day finished with a car show at Canadian Forces Station St. John’s, where competitor vehicles were welcomed back to the facility to a car wash provided by their cadets.
Tomorrow’s first day of official competition begins with stages in Colliers and Marysvale. The event then moves onto Makinsons followed by stages on the Burin peninsula, with stages in Black River and Garden Cove. It concludes with stages in Harcourt and Burgoynes Cove. The event will then be based out of the Eastlink Events Centre in Clarenville, where nightly car shows will occur September 12th – 15th, 7:30pm – 9pm.
