STROUD, ON (September 12, 2017)- Eric Yorke kept the success rolling on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, picking up his fourth feature victory of the season.
Yorke was fast from the get-go, placing second in the first heat, followed by winning his second qualifier.
Starting the feature from 12th, he began to make up ground early, making a three-wide pass on Lap 3 to take over the sixth position. Yorke would then get by Chandler Bos on Lap 5 to take over fifth, with the caution flying at the same time for an incident in turn two. Restarting inside the top-five, he moved up to second immediately, getting alongside Cory Young for the lead on Lap 9. He would then clear him a lap later, beginning to set sail ahead of the field.
Through the second half of the feature, Yorke continued to lead as he maneuvered his way through the lap traffic. Despite the gap behind him closing with Daniel Montanari getting to his bumper with a couple laps later, Yorke held on to pick up the feature victory.
“I was doing what I needed to do and drove the wheels off of it,” Yorke said afterwards. “It’s been awhile since I’ve been in victory lane.”
Notably as of two weeks ago, Yorke led the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) Division III standings by just three points. The NWAAS puts Sunset’s drivers up against competitors from 60 different tracks across North America, with each driver earning points based on their finishes at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks. NASCAR Home Tracks typically updates them on the Thursday of each week with the prior weekend’s results, but the updates were not fully completed last week due to Hurricane Irma. Once they’re updated, Yorke’s runner-up from last week and win this week should help the cause.
Yorke also currently sits third in the Sunset Speedway track standings.
