July 17, 2013. Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler and the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge took a significant step in the right direction during round six of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, SK on Wednesday night. After starting deep in the field Dowler charged his way forward to claim a sixth place result.
During the afternoon practice session the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge was consistently quick running in the top ten. “The car felt very comfortable throughout the practice sessions” said Dowler. “I’m still working on improving out qualifying and the cars were all so close that another tenth of a second would have put me in the top ten” he added.
Dowler would begin the 250 lap feature from the 15th starting spot and was hoping to move forward. “I just kind of held on for the first 100 laps or so” said the driver. “The car really wasn’t great so I just kind of stuck it out”
The #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge team would wait until later in the race before making their scheduled pit stop for fresh tires. “That was our strategy to wait until late in the race and it helped” stated Dowler.
With fresh rubber and a quick race car Dowler began pushing the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge forward. “As it got to the late stages I had to be a little more aggressive, it was pretty tough going out there for a lot of the race”.
Through the final stages of the race Dowler continued to maneuver the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge forward and when the checkered flag waved scored a sixth place finish. “Picking up nine spots was big for us and we needed a better result that what we’ve been having. Now we’ve got something to build on moving forward” he added.
After six events Noel Dowler is up to seventh in the overall championship standings, just five points back of sixth.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series consists of 12 events from coast to coast in Canada. The next event takes place at Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, QC on Saturday July 27th.
