SOUTHAMPTON, ON- After a top-10 finish in July 27th’s 75-lap Ltd. Late Model invitational, ‘Livewire’ Nick Goetz is set to return to Sunset Speedway for back-to-back appearances this weekend.
“These are the weekends that really test what your team is made of”, smiles Goetz as his NG Motorsports squad works to prepare his No. 24.
“Back-to-back race nights are not easy. You really have to watch how hard you are on your equipment. If you take too much damage on Night 1, it’ll be awfully tough to be back out for Night 2”
‘Livewire’ has learned that lesson the hard way. The 2014 season has seen Goetz tally a number of impressive runs and top-10 finishes, though it has also seen him on the wrong end of his fair share of on-track incidents.
“There have been a few nights where if we didn’t have bad luck, we’d have no luck at all”, offers Goetz. “I’m incredibly lucky to have some of the best guys in the sport wrenching on my equipment. I’ve kept them a lot busier than I would have liked to this season”
“I’ve learned a tonne this season, and we’ve battled through a lot as a team”, continues Goetz. “We just bring the car home, bandage it up and get ready for the next round. If this was boxing – I’m not sure how many teeth I would have left”
The third-year competitor will make the near 3-hour haul to Sunset this weekend, with hopes of earning his first podium at his home track.
“Sunset is the deep end of the pool, and a top-3 there would mean the world to us”, says Goetz. “We’ve had wins outside of Sunset, so I know we have the equipment to get the job done. We just need to bring it all together. Hopefully this is the weekend for it”
Nick Goetz pilots a McColl Racing Enterprises chassis, with marketing support from Lake Huron Rod & Gun, Arctic Spas of Collingwood, Mondo Car Wash, The Auto Spa, Shoreline Beacon, Kincardine News, The Ticket Line, Austin Graphics, Van Dolders Windows & Doors, TA Stewart & Son and Great Lakes Concrete.
