Sebring FL  (March 17, 2019) – Montreal’s Kuno Wittmer had a very promising weekend ahead of him after qualifying second for the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120, a 2-hour endurance race in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Fresh off a win at the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, Wittmer and the Compass Racing team were confident entering the weekend at the Sebring International Raceway. The Canadian is no stranger to this track as he has been competing on this bumpy road course since 1999.

Wittmer, a newly-appointed McLaren Factory Driver, qualified an impressive second place on Thursday evening, despite the session being cut short due to an incident on track.

Right from the start of the race on Friday afternoon, Kuno was at the front of the field, battling to maintain a spot in the Top 3, with the goal in mind to score important championship points. However, some bad luck prevented him and his teammate Paul Holton from succeeding, with the team finishing in 23rdplace.

Until that moment, the duo’s McLaren 570s GT4 was impressive, showing promising pace. Wittmer and Holton were among the quickest during practice sessions, finding the right balance for the No. 75 Torque Show / Race Day Foundation entry.

Sebring International Raceway was the host of the Super Sebring Weekend, a combined event between IMSA and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge took place prior to the 1000 miles of Sebring, the WEC event which starred McLaren ambassador Fernando Alonso among many other talented drivers.

Kuno Wittmer: “Unfortunately, Sebring has not brought us luck this year. Having stood on the highest step on the podium in 2018, you sometimes have some bad luck. We showed good pace and were competitive all weekend long, these are the high and low points in motorsports. I am especially proud of the Compass Racing team and my teammate on well they executed their tasks. We have a solid testing program set for April ahead of the next event at Mid-Ohio on May 3rd, 2019. It is a long season ahead, we are pushing hard for this championship!”
