STAYNER, ON- Following a podium finish in Round 2 of the APC United Late Model Series at Flamboro Speedway, Pro Late Model veteran Brandon Watson is wasting little time in preparing for Round 3 at Delaware Speedway on June 26th.
The third-generation standout will travel to Delaware for a weekly event on June 19th with hopes of formulating the right strategy for next week’s 100-lap APC Series-sanctioned contest.
“We’ve had more than a few good runs at Delaware in the past but, for whatever reason, we haven’t been able to get a win there,” explains Watson. “It’s a tough field. It’s always been a tough field at Delaware. Their local guys are as tough as any in the country, so we know what we’re in for on Friday”
“Initially we had hoped to haul up for a test session – but we realized that we would learn a lot more about our package in race trim, competing against some of the same teams we’ll be on track with next Friday,” continues the well-spoken wheelman.
“We’re going to be experimenting with a couple changes that we’ve made to our Delaware setup for this season – a mix of old and new stuff – and we’ll see how it works out”
Watson’s most recent performance with the tour served as the ideal bounce back, after a frustrating DNF in the opening round of competition at Sunset Speedway on May 23rd.
“Sunset was a big disappointment for us,” admits the former Super Late Model champon. “We had an awesome car and really believed that we had a chance at contending for a win. To come out and set fast time, only to be taken out by engine issues in the feature was a tough pill to swallow”
“Flamboro was an awesome way to bounce back. A podium finish, against this type of competition, is something to be incredibly proud of. It made the ride home feel a lot quicker, that’s for sure”
With 6 events still remaining on the inaugural schedule, Watson knows his championship hopes are far from tarnished. However, his family-run team would like more than anything to break through to victory lane sooner rather than later.
“We gave up a lot of points at Sunset,” says Watson matter-of-factly. “At this stage – we could really use a win to get back into the championship hunt. Delaware’s likely to have one of the best fields that you’ll see on the tour all season, so it’s definitely not going to be easy. Hopefully we can learn something this weekend that can put us in position to give these guys a run on June 26th.”
