May 16, 2013- The drivers of Delaware Speedway are ready to shake off the winter blues and kick off the championship chase this Friday for opening night. The racing lineup features the Demar Aggregates Trucks, Coca-Cola Super Stocks, and the fastest cars at the track, the custom-built FT Garage Late Models. Racing will begin at the new 7:30 start time for 2013.
The FT Garage Late Models enter the night with a championship vacuum. Mark Watson (#3) of St. Thomas won the championship last season but then surprised everyone by going out on top and retiring from racing. Now, eager to prove themselves, the drivers of the FT Garage Late Models will hit the track for their first competition of the season on Friday.
Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin will begin his defence of the Coca-Cola Super Stock championship on Friday night. After last season, Matt Robblee (#51) of Dorchester is expected to be on of Showler’s top rivals. On practice day Robblee managed to get the better of Showler clocking quicker lap times than the defending champ. For Showler’s part, however, his crew spent most of the day chasing mechanical issues on their car. With these issues behind them it is expected that Showler’s equipment will be in fine form come Friday night.
In 2013Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont is truly at the top of his game in the Demar Aggregates Truck series. The defending champion, who took home four wins in the previous season, enters this one with a target on his back bumper as the driver to beat. With a wide open field all eyes will be on the truck division to see if there are any drivers who can give the defending champ a run for his money.
Tickets for the opening event are available online at the track website. Special event tickets for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and ISMA Super Modifieds are also available. Full schedule of events at www.delawarespeedway.com.
