Delaware, ON – Delaware Speedway celebrated Canada Day early Friday evening with a special race, the Sifton 100. The program also included a 35-lap Demar Aggregates Trucks Feature. The races were followed by fireworks to begin the long weekend and the Canada Day celebrations.
Before the races began, spectators had the opportunity to walk laps around the track in support of Jesse’s Journey. The group sold tickets for a 50/50 draw before the race. They were able to raise $1200 to support research on Deuchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Jeff Showler (#56) of Mt. Elgin was the winner of the 35-lap Demar Aggregates Trucks Feature. Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont led the race for twenty-five laps and was passed by Showler in the 33rd lap with only two laps remaining. Adriaensen finished in second. The race had two cautions.
Jesse Kennedy (#10) of Southwold won the Sifton 100 in FT Garage Late Models on Friday evening. Kennedy took the lead on lap thirty-nine from Jonathan Urlin (#99) of London. Urlin had battled with Steven Matthews (#15) of New Liskeard between laps four and thirty. David Elliot (#3) of Waterdown led the first three laps and ultimately finished third. Second was Kirk Hooker (#38) of Chatham. Kennedy’s win marks the second time he has won the Canada Day event.
Racing continues at Delaware Speedway next Friday with the Open-Ontario 4-Cylinder Championship. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the races, which will also include Coca-Cola Super Stocks and Demar Aggregates Trucks begin at 8:00 p.m.
