ST. JOHN’S, NFLD – The dust had barely settled on Targa Newfoundland 2012 when organizers announced the dates of the next edition of Canada’s longest and toughest motorsport event.
Competitors, crews, volunteers and fans will converge on St. John’s for the start of Targa 2013 on Saturday, September 15, 2013, rally organizer Robert Giannou announced here. The week-long festival of speed and endurance will conclude back in the capital the following Saturday, September 21, 2013.
The make-up of the course will be announced later this year, Giannou said, but suggested the 2013 route will be a mix of previous favourite Targa stages and host communities with a sprinkling of new competitive stages and locations.
“As we’ve discovered over the years, the Targa route is a living, breathing thing,” Giannou said. “It is always a mix of the best of past events and enticing new roads and communities. That’s what makes Targa a unique driving challenge, and what keeps competitors coming back.”
Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world The 12th annual rally will cover more than 2,000 kilometres of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of Newfoundland, including up to 450 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
