MUSKOKA, ON- Former Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midget champion Daniel Bois will be behind the wheel of a Mini Stock at this weekend’s Flamboro Speedway Frostoberfest fielded by multi-time Sauble Speedway winner Kevin Bridge Racing.
“I don’t really get to race as much as I would like to anymore because of work commitments, so these days it’s all about taking down events on my bucket list,” explained Bois.
“Last season, we did the Autumn Colours Classic in an [Open Wheel] Modified, and this season we’re doing Frostoberfest in a Mini Stock,” continued the former open wheel standout. “Seeing what Mike [Schmidt] has done with this event is incredible. He’s done so much for me and my program in the last year that it was a no-brainer for me to find a way to support him and his event”
Frostoberfest’s unique Twin-30 features will mark Bois debut in the rapidly expanding Mini Stock division.
“From an outsider’s point of view, the Mini Stock division is pretty fascinating,” said the short track veteran. “The mix of young guys trying to break out and the veterans that have been around for years means that things are constantly changing and the division itself is constantly evolving”
“I’m looking forward to getting out there with them this weekend, because I honestly believe the young guys that are winning races now are just going to keep moving up through this sport”
The event will also mark the debut of Bois’ new partnership with Kincardine-based Kevin Bridge Racing.
“Kevin’s equipment is top notch. I can’t thank him enough for this opportunity,” said Bois. “I’ve had my TQ [Can-Am Midget] at Sauble on nights where Kevin’s won the Mini Stock feature – so I’ve seen firsthand just how capable his program is. I think if I can get a feel for the car early, and qualify us into the show, then we should absolutely have a chance of contending for a win”
With $1000 in cash awarded to the winner – in addition to the one-of-a-kind soapstone trophies – Bois is intent on making his presence known this weekend.
“The Frostoberfest Igloo trophies are just about the coolest prize in Ontario, and I would love to have one for myself,” smiled the affable wheelman. “This event has become one of the flagships of every season, and when you look at the list of guys that have won it, it reads like a who’s who of provincial standouts. It would be an honor to join that list.”
