Belleville, ON, (May 7, 2018)- The 2017 edition of CTCC presented by Pirelli sure felt like a 14-chapter novel. Excitement, drama, heartbreak and triumph of bumper-to-bumper competition that resulted in three new heroes.
On May 18, a new season begins at the Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, and a new story is about to be written. An exquisite selection of the greatest Canadian drivers will soon return to competition, well challenged by a new set of characters.
This season, four classes will constitute the field; GT Cup, GT Sport, Super Touring and Touring classes will race at the same time on the track, competing for supremacy in their respective category. Within these four classes, competition will be at a very high level. The new GT Cup class will feature ultra performance race cars such as Ferrari 458, BMW M4 and Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Talented drivers like Mario Guérin, Rob Metka, Amir Farahmand and the returning GT Sport 2017 Champion Bob Attrell will be amongst the drivers of this new category.
The GT Sport Class will without doubt be the most populated category this season, featuring drivers like Alex Tagliani, team owner Glenn Chaplin and his son Lee Chaplin – all three Fastco teammates will be racing a Ford Mustang Boss 302. The United Auto Racing team is returning with Ashley and Chris Sahakian, both driving a Ford Mustang Boss 302 S. Tom and Gary Kwok will both be driving a Honda Civic TCR with the M&S Racing team. Also returning, two-time Champion Damon Sharpe will be behind the wheel of his Toyota GT86 with Blanchet Motorsports. Jocelyn Hébert is back with his Acura TLX with 89Racing Team and Lyndsay Rice will drive a brand-new Audi RS3 LMS TCR Rice Racing/Bestline Auto Tech and many more.
Amongst the new characters this season in GT Sport class: Buffalo, NY driver Ed Killeen anticipates solid competition aboard his brand-new Audi RS3 LMS TCR with TWOth Autosport and Marc Raymond will be competing with SCB Racing in a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Super Touring class will feature a more moderate field for the first time. Fierce competitors will represent this class: Mark Gawronski is returning with a solid Honda Civic Si with JukeBox Racing as well as the BMW M235iR RMP Competizione duo Michael DelleDonne and Rocco Marciello. Ilker Stark, team owner of SCB Racing will also compete behind the wheel of his BMW M235iR. More drivers will be added to the field throughout the season.
Touring class will be comprised of the 2017 Champion Michel Sallenbach who will be back with CTCC for a few events along with his teammates Paul Gravel and Nelson Chan who proudly complete Team Octane’s MINI Cooper S JCW line-up. Daniel Blanchette will come back this year in his Honda Civic Si with 89Racing Team, and Shawn Little will be stepping into the Velocity Motorsport Club Honda Civic Si for the first time.
