CAYUGA, ON – On September 22, thousands of excited fans packed Toronto Motorsports Park to witness an event like no other, the CSCS Season FInale. Event sponsor Scion Canada added to the excitement by hosting the final round of the exclusive Scion Tuner Challenge @ CSCS where the Champion would be determined!
Let’s start with the drifters, in support of the tightly knit drift community DeadMachine put up a purse of $1,000 for the CSCS Season Finale to be split between the top 3 drivers! Entry speeds and exit angle have increased to the next level from running the reverse layout, this kept morning practice interesting as competitors fought hard for top qualifying spots. Riley Sexsmith’s 130hp hardbody truck, a fan favourite, delivered smooth momentous built drifts to beat out points leader Brad Pauuw but later lost to the v8-powered smokeshow 180sx of Dylan Sharpe.
Dylan would go on to face Nelson Monteiro’s 240sx convertible powered by a Ford 5.0 v8 in the finals pitting the two v8’s against one another. The first runs were incredibly tight as both driver’s delivered clouds of smoke for the fans, but Nelson spun in the one more time run solidifying Dylan’s 1st place win! Judges on deck for this round were Scion sponsored DMCC driver Pat Cyr, DMCC driver Brad Carlton and Chris De La Cruz of CoolKidsClub.
Over at the drag strip rain from Saturday saw the track still a little damp and it was enough to have officials run a 1/8 Mile instead of the usual 1/4. This didn’t take away from any action as competitors and drivers doing Test & Tune all got more timed runs in. Jason Velenosi of Innovative Tuning ran solid repeat E/T’s in his white gc8 Subaru to clinch another 1st place victory in Super Street giving him a perfect 2013 season! Clint McAdams had a similar outcome, putting down super low reaction times in his meticulously prepped SRT-4 sweeping both Pure Street and Bracket. Marcel Brosseau beat out Randy Viverios to take the win in Street Warz.
CSCS Show & Shine draws a multitude of creative competitors ranging from different styles, different automotive backgrounds and different approaches to grab a viewer’s attention. As each round is unique, there’s always something new to see and the Season Finale was no exception. Judges Favourite, a prestigious awards not dictated by points was given to James Drake for his ultra-rare Ford Escort Cosworth. Best Body was awarded to Teknotik’s Matte Gosse for his custom JDM-inspired RSX. Rich Polsoni’s fully modified Infiniti G35 took the points lead to earn CSCS Best of Show. Largest Club was a close call with many teams showing in great numbers, but in the end Dark Concepts took home the trophy.
Time Attack is known for breaking records and the 2013 Season Finale was no exception. Story of the day was James Houghton’s Teknotik Integra Type-R which has been setting Unlimited FWD records all season. James ran his personal best time of 1:14.376 to sweep Unlimited FWD! Street FWD saw the top 3 drivers separated by only a fraction of a second with John Silva’s Civic running a 1:21.116 to clench first place. The fierce competition in Unlimited RWD was silenced when Sasha Anis of Speedstar returned with his notorious 350Z to win the class with a time of 1:13.601 to beat out Hubert Belanger’s McLaren MP4-12C and Marco Jorge’s 3-rotor Rx7.
CSCS would like to thank all of the sponsors, competitors, volunteers and fans who make each and every event possible. Thanks for an amazing record-breaking season. See you all out next year!
