SHAKESPEARE, ON- Fresh off of tallying his first top-10 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model season at Barrie Speedway on June 14th, Rookie of the Year contender Corey Jones is ready for a strong follow-up at this weekend’s Don Biederman Memorial.
Jones will enter Sunset Speedway on June 28th and 29th intent on reinserting himself into the rapidly intensifying Rookie battle, and earning the first top-5 of his Super Late Model career.
“Putting together a strong run at Barrie was exactly what this team needed”, says Jones, as he reflects on Round 3 of the OSCAAR tour. “After starting out our year with back-to-back engine issues, we were starting to get down on ourselves. A top-10 makes it a lot easier to spend hours in the shop preparing for ‘the Biederman’ this weekend”
A protégé of Super Late Model veteran Shane Gowan, Jones admits his team is still working to find the right combination for Sunset.
“We’re still in the dark as far as our Sunset setup goes. The last time we were there, we had engine failure on lap-4, so we weren’t able to really get a feel for how the car will respond in an extended distance race”
“We were able to find speed in our heat races at Sunset, which tells us we’re heading in the right direction”, continues the former Canadian Vintage Modified star. “Shane and his guys have been fantastic in sharing information. They’ve really gone above and beyond to make sure we’re comfortable with our new program. I can’t imagine tackling this level of commitment without having a veteran like Shane to bounce ideas off of”
For Jones, the opportunity to cement his status as a promising up-and-comer – at one of the biggest events on the OSCAAR schedule – is as exciting a proposition as he has faced in his time with the tour.
“I think this weekend is one that jumps off the calendar for any Super Late Model competitor”, offers the likeable freshman. “I don’t care who you are, or what you’ve accomplished, I have a tough time believing there will be a driver in the paddock that won’t feel that pang of anticipation as they roll through the gates Saturday afternoon”
“It’s a huge event, one that would be an absolute honour to win. This will be one of the biggest crowds we race in front of all season, and I’m just looking forward to showing just how far this team has come. I feel as though we’re on our way to becoming legitimate contenders on the tour, and a strong run at ‘the Biederman’ is the best way to put our program on the map”
Corey Jones’ J Star Motorsports team is proud to represent Castle Building Centres, RBC, Accountable Automotive, Dan Simpson – RBC Mortgage Specialist, Lafleche Roofing, Anmar Cleaning Services, Inno-Tech, Ken Robinson Refrigeration, Oktane Productions, Epic Racewear and Westmeadow Dental during the 2014 OSCAAR Super Late Model season.
