BADEN, ON- Super Late Model sophomore Corey Jones hopes to continue his ascension through the OSCAAR rankings this Saturday, when the tour returns to Sunset Speedway for their third visit of 2015.
Jones ran well within the top-10 in his last appearance at Sunset on June 6th, but experienced brake issues late in the event that relegated him to a 9th place finish.
“We’re absolutely pushing ourselves harder than we did last season. There are a lot of hours in this car. We’re ready to compete,” says Jones in reference to his team’s goals for June 27th’s event. “I feel as though our program has improved to the point where we can make a run for a podium finish on any given night”
“We were a top-5 car the last time we were at Sunset. It was tough to settle for 9th. We boiled the brakes and kind of shot ourselves in the foot. But, we learned from it. We’ll be better this Saturday”
Throughout the off-season, Jones was forthcoming about the work he had intended for his family-operated team’s program – including beefing up their setup for the tour’s five yearly visits to Sunset.
“Sunset was the one place that we knew we needed to improve at,” admits the former Canadian Vintage Modified standout. “We put a lot of effort into our Sunset program over the off-season, and I’m thrilled to see that it’s paying off”
“It’s not an easy place to get a hold of,” continues Jones. “We’ve had to learn a lot of things the hard way – but I’m grateful for it now. We’re getting better every time we leave the trailer”
With the tour expecting close to 20 cars in their third event of the season, Jones remains confident that his team will be at the front when the laps begin to matter.
“We’re coming for a podium this weekend,” nods the charismatic sophomore with a grin. “We’ve come so close already this season – Saturday is the day we finally get it done”
“If we can take care of our stuff for the first 25-laps, I know that we have a car good enough to be a factor at the end.”
