BRADFORD, ON (February 28, 2018)- Weekly short track stock car racing has its own vernacular. At the speedway, ‘experience’ is often defined as ‘seat-time’.
As the 2018 season draws closer, Connor James looks to gain some valuable seat-time. The young, second-generation speedster from Bradford, Ontario will look to earn the rookie of the year title in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Limited Late Model division at Sunset Speedway, while also contending for the season championship on the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series.
From his first start of the year – Saturday, April 28th at Sunset – James will strap-in behind the controls of a variety of different racing machines for a minimum of 25 events. The 20-year-old hard-charger – who picked-up main event wins on both the Sportsman Cup and Ontario Modifieds Series tours in 2017, where he was also named rookie of the year – say he can’t wait to get the new schedule underway.
“I’m excited to get the season rolling,” Connor James said. “We’ll be doing something somewhere every weekend and sometimes, running a couple of events in the same weekend. It’ll be a great experience and a good chance to learn about the different cars and going head-to-head with some very talented drivers. I have to thank my parents for the opportunity to follow my dream and my family and friends for their support and encouragement throughout the years.”
The Robert James Racing crew has been hard at work behind the scenes getting all three cars in the team’s stable ready for a new season of action. One of their immediate priorities will be having Connor James’ Sunset Speedway Limited Late Model wrapped-up so it can be displayed in the racer’s corral at the 4th annual Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – March 9th through 11th – at the International Centre in Toronto.
“Meeting some new people and talking to the fans at the Motorama Show will be fun and great way to kick-off the season,” Connor James continued. “We’ll be exploring some uncharted territory against a very competitive field at a new weekly home track in 2018, so it will be good to have some extra fan support for our program right off the bat.”
The team is looking to bring some additional sponsorship to the fold for Connor’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series package at Sunset Speedway and the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series team; as well as the OSCAAR Modified of teammate Stu Robinson Jr. Interested parties can request a copy of the Robert James Racing marketing prospectus by contacting robertjames@live.ca or calling 905.751.8855.
