MT. BRYDGES, ON (June 11, 2018)- – Longtime Pro Late Model standout Cole Powell will have his sights set on a first ever NASCAR Pinty’s Series win at Jukasa Motor Speedway this Saturday.
The former Delaware Speedway regular made his first career NPS start at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park last month for Ed Hakonson Racing, and is more than ready to jump back behind the wheel for his sophomore outing.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get back to Jukasa,” says Powell with a smile. “It’s a first-class facility. We had our Pro Late Model there last year and I can honestly say it’s one of the nicest speedways I’ve ever competed at. This is going to be a huge show for the [NASCAR] Pinty’s Series and I’m real happy to be a part of it”
And, while Powell fully acknowledges the level of competition committed to the Canada’s national series, he also holds a firm belief in what he can accomplish through his new alliance with EHR.
“No matter what we’re racing or where – we always make sure to have confidence in ourselves and our equipment,” explains the second-generation standout. “We don’t load our car in the box without knowing that we have a chance to win. Jukasa is no different”
“I know that we’re going up against a lot of elite-level teams,” adds Powell, “but I know that Ed Hakonson Racing is going to have a piece that will put us in the mix to be a major threat for the win”
Having spent the majority of his career in the Pro Late Model ranks – with extended forays into Pro Truck and Open Wheel Modified racing along the way – Powell is also quick to point out just how different the bigger, heavy NASCAR Pinty’s Series cars are to control and handle.
“These cars are different than just about anything I’ve ever sat in,” says Powell. “Debuting at [Canadian Tire Motorsports Park] really helped me get up to speed with what the cars like and what they don’t like. The number one takeaway is that the weight, shocks and break package are completely unique to what I’m used to running – meaning they don’t stop that well. But, we found our limit a few times at CTMP and I think those lessons are going to help us at Jukasa”
“[Car Owner] Ed [Hakonson] and his guy bring a fantastic car to the track every week and I’m so appreciative to have the chance to race for them,” continues the Mt. Brydges, ON native. “I know that we’re going to have a lot of success together and I hope that this Saturday is the first chapter of that.”
