COOKSTOWN, ON – Rising star Cole Ledson capped off a breakout season with a head-turning appearance at the US Legends Car Nationals at South Carolina’s Anderson Motor Speedway.
The Cookstown, ON native found himself matched against an incredibly deep Young Lions division talent pool, and made strides with each appearance on track throughout the three day event. After capturing a momentous victory in Friday’s annual ‘Race of Champions’, Ledson went on to charge through the field in Saturday’s Young Lions A Main, carving his way from a 12th place starting position to a solid 4th place finish.
“I don’t think we could have asked for a better weekend at the Nationals,” beamed Ledson. “Our team gave me a phenomenal car from the moment we took it out of the trailer. We found a really good baseline early in practice and just kept improving and finding ways to make our car better. The results were more than I could ever have imagined. This was the perfect way to end our season”
When asked about his ‘Race of Champions’ triumph, Ledson readily admitted the trip to victory lane will forever remain a career highlight.
“The Race of Champions was, by far, the biggest win I’ve ever had. It didn’t really sink in until we were on the trip home,” said the up-and-comer. “It’s a huge accomplishment. To beat that many elite-level teams just shows us that all of our hard work is paying off. It takes a lot to be a part of an event like the Nationals, but being able to turn in a performance like that makes it all worthwhile”
Ledson credited the deepening talent pool within the Ontario Legends Series as a contributing factor to his own improvement, both within his home province and on the road in open events across North America.
“There’s no question that the competition in Ontario is getting a lot sharper,” insists Cole. “There are a lot of teams in Ontario now that are no joke at all. Racing against that level of talent is most definitely an ideal way for us to prepare for when we go out on the road. Our program is getting better every year, and that’s thanks in part to the drivers that we’re racing against every weekend”
The Ledson Motorsports team will take a brief reprieve from competition, as they focus their efforts on preparing for the 2016 Winter Nationals in February.
“With what we were able to do at the Nationals, I’m counting down the days until we get to Florida,” laughs Ledson. “Last weekend was the ideal opportunity for us to show everyone how far we’ve come, and there are no doubts in my mind that we can keep our momentum going in February. I think we may have surprised a few people with what we were able to accomplish at Anderson [Motor Speedway], and now we just have to make sure to keep working so that we can follow that up at the Winter Nationals.”
Cole Ledson and the entire Ledson Motorsports team is proud to represent Cavalier Transportation Services, Ledson Wines, Cooksville Tire, Edgehill Insurance, RF Pathways, Peterbilt Region of London/Ayr, Shaw Tracking, TBM Legal Services and Trailcon Leasing.
