KITCHENER, ON- Following a pair of impressive performances in his first two starts of the Sauble Speedway season, Late Model veteran Tim Ellis will enter tonight’s event at Sauble Speedway intent on securing his first victory of the 2015 season.
Ellis is coming off of a 6th place finish in June 13th competition, which saw him charge from the tail of the field – twice – after a pair mid-race incidents.
“We’ve developed this bad habit of having the fastest car and the worst luck,” jokes Ellis when asked about his outing last weekend. “I’m hoping to change half of that on Saturday night”
“We raced from 8th to 3rd in the first 5 laps – I was a happy guy,” continues the former ALSTAR Super Series standout. “We went to the back twice after a couple of racing deals. But, despite taking some damage, our car never fell off. It was a little more adversity than we had planned to work through – but, in the process, we continue to learn a lot about this car”
The Waterloo, ON veteran continues to work with setup expert Brian MacDonald to further advance their program, in search of the 2015 Sauble Speedway championship.
“When we first brought this car out at the end of 2014, I was blown away at how good it was,” remembers Ellis. “Since then, Brian [MacDonald] has done a ton of work to it and it just keeps getting better. Every time I think that we’ve reached the maximum of what we can get out of this car, we make another adjustment and it gets even better. We had the best car on the property last weekend and just couldn’t string together enough luck to keep us out of trouble”
Despite the team’s recent streak of bad luck, Ellis remains positive that his familiar No. 2 will be back up front soon.
“Bad luck doesn’t last forever,” offers the personable veteran with a smile. “We’ve had this car out of the box twice this season, and both times I’ve felt as though we had the ride to beat”
“It’s no secret that this division is incredibly tough to run up front in. These guys are masters of their craft, but I truly believe that this is our week. This team has worked so hard on this car and the lap times have shown that even if the results haven’t. We just need a ‘pick me up’ performance – and I intend to make that happen on Saturday night”
“I’m starting to get back to my old ways. I was out of the game for a long time, but I think we’ve just about knocked all of the rust off of me at this point”
“It’s just like riding a bike – except this is the nicest bike I’ve ever had and everyone else’s bikes are a lot faster than I remember,” continues Ellis with a laugh. “But we’re not going to stop working until we get them in our rearview mirror. We’ll be ready on Saturday night.”
Tim Ellis’ 2015 Sauble Speedway season is made possible thanks to the support of Fibernetics, Academy Construction and Boehmers.
