Toronto, Ontario (December 10, 2013) – Canadian open-wheel racer, Luke Chudleigh, will return to Europe in 2014 having re-signed with Tech1 Racing to compete in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS Series. The 18-year-old from Milton is returning to both the team and series where he made his European debut in 2013, a season which saw Chudleigh introduced to some of the continents most renowned circuits such as Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps and Italy’s famed Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
2014 will prove to be no exception as the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS Series schedule includes a return to both Grand Prix circuits as well as rounds in Imola (Italy), Pau (France), Red Bull Ring (Austria), Mugello (Italy) and Jerez (Spain).
“I’m thrilled to be back racing in Europe in 2014,” enthused Chudleigh. “Tech1 Racing is the perfect environment for me to continue my open-wheel racing education and with a year together to our credit, I’m confident we can enjoy a strong campaign.”
“The new schedule offers plenty of variety but having raced already at the likes of Imola, Spa and Monza, I’m heading there armed with plenty of knowledge. It was a steep learning curve last year there’s no doubt about that but we’ve got a great package and as in 2013, I’m immersing myself in the whole experience by living beside the team in France and maintaining a close relationship to give myself every advantage.”
Chudleigh is managed by Trevor Wickens and mentored on-track by his brother, former Marussia Racing Formula One test driver and 2013 Mercedes DTM race winner, Robert Wickens.
“I think a second season in Formula Renault 2.0. ALPS will be of real value to Luke as he continues to learn the ultra competitive European style of open-wheel racing,” stated Robert, the 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 Series Champion. “He’s with a great team, he’s proved he’s willing to make sacrifices to compete overseas and he’s shown a lot of progress having gone in at the deep end last season against drivers with far more experience. I’m looking forward to seeing him back behind the wheel in 2014.”
Toulouse-based Tech1 Racing, operated by Simon and Sarah Abadie, is well equipped to evaluate the talents and potential of Chudleigh running cars in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finally in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS – the latter series hailing from a 2011 merging of the Italian and Swiss championships.
“We’re delighted to have Luke returning as our lead driver in the ALPS series,” said team boss, Simon Abadie. “He made a bold step last year by relocating full-time to France to compete with us but that investment started to pay off. With a season under his belt, we head into the 2014 championship confident Luke will be a consistent front-runner.”
The 2014 Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS Series kicks off with a double-header round on the 6th April at the illustrious Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy.
