@UnitedAuto_ •@CTCCracing •@MicraCup •@CTMPOfficial •Boisbriand, September 5, 2016.– United Auto Racing, composed of drivers Ashley and Chris Sahakian, was at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) and in the Nissan Micra Cup. Chris Sahakian climbed on the third step of the podium twice in CTCC while Ashley Sahakian finished the race as 3rd rookie.
Two of the most prestigious Canadian racecar series were on track this weekend at CTMP during the Silverado 250. More than 30 000 spectators were around the track to cheer on the drivers. United Auto Racing colours were well represented by Dollard-des-Ormeaux drivers Chris Sahakian, 23, and Ashley Sahakian, 21.
Chris raced in both series, completing four races in total. In CTCC, he finished third during both races in the Grand Touring class.
“During the first race, it was very close in the beginning, we were a few cars wide in many corners. I had a very clean race, I battled with Damon Sharpe and it was very respectful,” explains the driver. “As for the second race, there was a lot more action on track, we played door to door but it was a really nice race. I am very happy because I was able to cut one second off my time since last time we were here,” concluded Sahakian who is still leading the Grand Touring championship with 1470 points.
The siblings were on the track again at CTMP in the Nissan Micra Cup. Both of them had to compose with a lot of action during the races, but they were able to manage well. During the first race, Ashley Sahakian finished 20th on 26 drivers, also climbing on the third step of the rookie podium.
“The races were good. They were not my best races in this series but since it was only my second time at CTMP, it was not too bad for someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience on this track. It is a shame that there was so many full-course yellow, we didn’t get to do a lot of laps during the race, but at least my car was perfect,” explains Ashley who is currently third in the rookie’s championship.
As for Chris, the first race didn’t go as planned when he put his car sideways, which costed him a lot of positions. In the end, he was able to go from 19th to 11th place.
“I am very happy that I was able to climb back eight positions before the last yellow flag. It is very hard in the Nissan Micra Cup to come back like this, because of the tough competition and because the cars all have the same power,” said the eldest.
During the second race, he started from 12th place only to finish the race in ninth position.
“I had great battles with Normand Boyer and Metod Topolnik before his accident. We had a lot of fun on track, I am very happy with my driving this weekend because I kept consistency”.
Chris is now ninth in the driver’s championship.
United Auto Racing next race will be on September 24 and 25 at Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the Nissan Micra Cup season finale.
The drivers would like to thank their family and friends for their support, as well as their team member for their hard work.
