(March 15, 2017)- Established in 1966, Chassis Engineering grew up with the street rod movement that gained steam in the late 1960s. Under the motto “Safety in Engineering”, the company makes suspension components, engine mounts and swap kits, frame upgrades, and other components to turn early iron into the street rods we know and love.
Summit Racing carries a whole bunch of Chassis Engineering components including these:
Engine Conversion Kits
These kits allow you to fit a small block Chevy into many early cars and trucks. The kits include frame adapters, side-mount motor mounts, rubber cushions, and through bolts. Kits are available for these vehicles:

I-Beam Front Suspension Kits for 1929-48 Ford
Keep your Ford the way Henry designed it with one of these I-beam axle kits. They include everything you need to safely lower the front end of a buggy-spring Ford:
• Narrowed forged axle
• Transverse spring with sliders
• Shocks and mounts
• Spring perch bolts
Kits for 1935-48 Ford passenger cars also include adjustable shocks with shackles, an anti-sway bar, and a forged steering arm. These kits are designed for use with split wishbones.
Shock Kits
These kits feature hydraulic shocks that are valved specifically for lowered vehicles. You also get the necessary mounts and hardware. The rear shock kits are available for factory rear axles or swapped in modern axles depending on the applications. Shock Kits are available for these vehicles:
• 1928-31 Ford Model A
• 1932-34 Ford passenger car
• 1935-48 Ford passenger car
• 1948-52 Ford pickup
• 1934-48 Chevrolet passenger car
• 1948-53 Chevy pickup
Boxing Plates for Ford
If you’ve added some extra horsepower to your street rod, you’re going to need these boxing plates to keep the factory frame rails from twisting. Made from 3/16 inch thick steel, the plates are designed to beef up critical front and rear suspension attachment points and motor mount areas. Welding required. Boxing plates are available for these vehicles:
• 1932 Ford, front and rear
• 1934-40 Ford, front and rear
If you need help navigating the Chassis Engineering universe, the electronic version of its catalog breaks everything down by vehicle and universal-fit applications.
Summit Racing also offers Chassis Engineering bolt-on independent suspension kits, disc brake kits, transmission crossmembers, springs, and many other parts to build a solid street rod foundation.
