Bowmanville, ON- The 23rd season of stock car racing at ‘Canada’ Fastest Half Mile Paved Oval’, the Speedway of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, concluded on November 10 with its annual yearend banquet. A sellout crowd gathered at Oshawa, ON’s Quality Inn, and enjoyed an evening of fine dining, musical entertainment, some serious ‘Bench Racing’ and the essential Awards Presentations.
Co-hosted by CTMPS Track Announcer Jim Clarke, Speedway Director Glenn Butt and Techtonix Modified Series Co-founder Rick Warnes, it was a fitting finale to another successful season at the Southern Ontario short track as drivers, teams, sponsors, staff and supporters were rewarded and praised for their efforts over the past year.
Champions and winners in the Speedway’s three ‘Home’ divisions were recognized, and they shared the spotlight with the competitors of the track-based Open Wheeled Modified class.
Presentations were made to the following, deserving recipients,
CLASS CHAMPIONS: Kyle Donaldson (Late Model), John Baker Jr. (Bob’s Towing Thunder Car), Willy Howells (Lucas Oil Pure Stock), Dwight Brown (Techtonix Modified).
ROOKIE of the YEAR: Richard Boake (LM), Heath MacDonald (TC), Willy Howells (PS), Josh Gruntz (Mod).
BEST APPEARING CAR and TEAM: Jessup Racing/ Darren Kearnan (LM), John Baker Jr. (TC), Willy Howells (PS).
MOST SPORTSMANLIKE DRIVER: Mark Gordon (LM), Dale Wood (TC), Henk Mulders (PS).
MOST IMPROVED DRIVER: Shannon Kimmerly (LM), Tom Cormier (TC), Jeff Vandebelt (PS).
HARD LUCK AWARD: Doug Wills (LM), Anthony DiBello (TC), Bill Carr/ Ray Smith (PS)
The SCUGOG STANDARD MOST POPULAR DRIVER AWARD as Voted by the Fans: Willy Howells.
Also recognized for her never ending work and contributions to the Speedway was Chief Scorer Kathy McCabe.
Speedway Director Glenn Butt concluded the Awards Presentations by once more thanking his family, staff, sponsors and track supporters before promising to dedicate himself to the continued development and improvement of the half-mile CTMPS facility again in 2013.
