BOWMANVILLE, ON (May 22, 2019)- The hard work by Canada’s Best Racing Team (CBRT) during the off season was on display this past weekend in the season opener for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Veteran racer Anthony Simone hit the track in the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge and showed plenty of speed during the Clarington 200.
During the Saturday practice session Simone quickly showed the potential of the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge and posted a top ten lap. Later in the day during the qualifying session Simone would claim the 11thstarting spot for the Clarington 200.
“Would have been nice to start top ten but you could see that we’d be fine for the race” said CBRT General Manager & Crew Chief for the #1 car Joey McColm.
When Sunday’s race began Simone began to work the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge forward in the field right away. By the middle stages they were flirting with the top five and following pit stops for fuel and tires Simone seemed poised for a very positive result.
A late race caution and restart would change that. As driver drove frantically for every position on the final lap Simone was tagged by another car and suffered severe body damage to the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge and knocking him out of a possible top ten result.
“It’s really tough to have that happen on the last lap” said McColm. Our strategy worked well, we were in a good position, just kind of unfortunate”.
Despite the days result not being what they were deserving of McColm sees many good ones ahead.
“We got some attention from people today” he stated. “We are going to competing with the rest of the frontrunners all season. We have some good feedback from Anthony on some adjustments; his experience and knowledge will make us better. We can’t wait to get to Jukasa Speedway for the next event”.
Two other drivers running under the CBRT banner also had much to be pleased about. Jason White scored a top ten finish for the team in the #21 Powder Ventures Dodge and Brett Taylor also looked to be headed for a good day before suffering a mechanical failure.
“Really happy for Jason” said McColm. “He should be even better when we get to the ovals and you can see the improvement in Brett too. If he hadn’t suffered a shifter issue he’d be up there with a good result”.
