Halifax, NS. (September 13, 2017)- Scotia Speedworld’s CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series will close its 30th season this Friday at 7:00pm. Six divisions will battle for the final time on the oval this season, the Toursec Thunder & Lightning, Hydraulics Plus Bandit & Outlaw Bandoleros, Strictly Hydraulics Legends and the Affordable Fuels Sportsman. Grandstands will open at 5:00pm with racing action slated for 7:00pm.

Seven champions will be crowned on Friday night during the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series Finale. While three can breathe a bit easy heading into their final race of 2017, four point leaders have a seven point lead, or less, to work with.

Brooke Dowe (Bedford, NS) Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero, Nathan Langille (Coldbrook, NS) Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Bandit and Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) in the Toursec Thunder class all have a lead of 19 points or more. While they are not mathematically locked into their titles and still have to race on Friday night, they can breathe a bit easier than some of the other division point leaders.

The closest margin between top contenders heading into Finale Friday is three points between Matt Vaughan (Fletchers Lake, NS) and Jordan Veinotte (Porters Lake, NS) in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division. Vaughan has already locked up the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year in the Sportsman class, but will also try to make history by becoming the first rookie and overall champion in the class. Veinotte won on Finale Friday last season but came up short to Pete Miller (Kennetcook, NS) for the title.

Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) enters with a seven point lead on Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) and 15 points on Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) heading into the final Strictly Hydraulics Legend race of 2017. None of the trio has ever won a Strictly Hydraulics Legends Championship.

The battle in the Toursec Lightning division also sits as seven points between Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood, NS) and “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax, NS). The two have fought tooth and nail for their first track championship with Thibodeau winning five main features to Drake’s four. The duel Friday night is sure to thrill fans to the final laps.

The threesome has left fans on the edge of their seats all season and Friday should be no exception.
