(October 8, 2021)-Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to all my friends and family in Canada!
The seasons are turning. Although racing action would typically be completed by this time of year, we remain fully embroiled in a championship race here in Carrera Cup North America, where five races remain.
Two of those races will take place this weekend as the series visits Virginia International Raceway. Covering 1300 acres near the border of North Carolina and Virginia, the facility has a history dating back to the fifties and a 3.2-mile road course that is often considered one of the best in the world. With sharp elevation changes and natural scenery, the track is so good that it has needed no major design updates throughout nearly seventy years of racing.
Surprisingly though, it is my first visit here!
For various reasons, the track has never played a role in the open-wheel series, where I earned the bulk of my experience. With that in mind, preparation going into the weekend has been as crucial as ever. Knowing that the overall championship is still within reach, the team at JDX Racing and I have done all we can to set ourselves up for success. Thanks to some early week testing here at VIR, we are on pace and ready to build on our performance last month when we led the most laps throughout the Sportscar Together Fest at IMS.
