NEW HAMBURG, ON- Former Karting standout Jerrid Morphy will be back at Sunset Speedway for the second time in his freshman season on Saturday, September 27th. However, this time, the intensity will be ratcheted up a few notches, as the Rookie of the Year candidate prepares for his first career ‘Crown Jewel’ event.
“I feel like a kid counting down the days until Christmas morning”, says an excited Morphy. “Sunset is one of my favourite speedways on the circuit, and the ‘Velocity’ is their biggest event of the season. What’s not to look forward to?”
Morphy has shown improvement in each appearance with the Canadian Vintage Modified Tour this season, and will enter the event leading the points in the chase for the 2014 Rookie of the Year.
“It’s been an incredibly steep learning curve, but I’d like to think that we’ve picked up a little bit of knowledge at every step this season”, explains Morphy. “We’re miles ahead of where we were at the beginning of the year, and that’s what’s important. I take a lot of pride in how far this team has come”
While the main focus will be earning a top-10 finish this weekend, Morphy will also be experimenting with several different setup combinations ahead of the 2015 season.
“We’re already putting our plans together for a fulltime run with the Vintage Mods next season”, says Morphy. “From here on out, every time we hit the racetrack we’ll be looking to try new things for next year. With a little bit of luck, we’ll unload strong enough in 2015 to race for a championship”
