At the 2012 edition of the Canadian Motorsports Expo powered by Inside Track Motorsport News, the legendary racing facility located northeast of Toronto – long known to racers and fans as “Mosport” – announced the signing of a new marketing partnership with the Canadian Tire Corporation, resulting in the renaming of the multi-use venue as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
In the ensuing months, the 810-acre property has continued with extensive renovations and modifications to the grounds and the track. In their display at this year’s CME show, slated for February 8-10 at Toronto’s International Centre, the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park staff will highlight and illustrate the many improvements to the circuit, and discuss other proposed changes.
Among the most visible of the alterations to the facility is the nearly completed Event Centre, an ultra-modern building that will house the administration offices, media centre, timing and scoring, banquet facilities and multiple hospitality suites.
Explains Myles Brandt, President and General Manager for CTMP, “The Event Centre is the ‘business’ hub of the track, and brings the circuit technically and esthetically into the new era. And while the Event Centre has been one of the major projects this past year, it is only part of what we have accomplished, and just another stepping stone in the refitting of the facility.”
Of course, the biggest news to come from the CTMP offices has been the recent announcement that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will make its Canadian debut on the 3.957 km road course on Labour Day weekend of 2013.
“Obtaining a race in one of NASCAR’s ‘big three’ divisions had been a goal of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. To see this dream come true as quickly as it has, shows that CTMP has become a destination for the best of racing divisions,” continued Brandt.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is just the latest addition to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park schedule, one that, in 2013, will continue to feature such world recognized events as Round 5 on the American Le Mans Series calendar, the SCCA Trans-Am competitors and the Star Mazda Series, as well as such home grown divisions as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, the Canadian Touring Car Championship, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin, Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship and the CASC-Ontario regional races.
Not to be forgotten, and enhancing the CTMP ‘motorsport park’ description, is the challenging half-mile Speedway with its full slate of Saturday night stock car racing, including a date on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series calendar, the karting circuit for up-and-coming racers, and the Driver Development Track.
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has been recognized as the ‘Home of Canadian Motorsports’ for over half a century. The history of this world renowned race circuit is continually growing, and fans can get an insider’s look at the next chapter by visiting their display at the 2013 Canadian Motorsports Expo.
“This is where our motorsport season starts,” concludes Brandt. “The timing works for us, everything will be finalized and we’ll be ready to go.”
