Grand Bend Motorplex features a spectacular show this weekend, including six jet vehicles, the Paton family’s pair of Top Fuel dragsters, as well as our country’s best nitro-injected dragsters. There will also be a full field of three-second Pro Mods, along with the traditional high-quality local sportsman competitors. A premier local drag racing event under the lights on Saturday evening. Kyle Steckly, along with his local APC/CANUSA Toyota crew, led the final 86 laps of the 200-lap All Star National Series Masters of the Pros feature for one of the 21-year-old Milverton, ON native’s biggest victories ever, and at one of stock car racing’s premier events. NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick finished eighth, while his son Keelan recorded an impressive fifth-place finish. Teams travelled from Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Michigan to compete.
The track record was established by Windsor’s Chase Pinsonneault, who led the first 113 laps and ultimately finished fourth, creating a great Canadian connection story.
In Seattle, WA, the KB Titan Pro Stock team, led by the category’s winningest driver, Greg Anderson, returned to the winner’s circle after suffering its first loss of the season at Sonoma the previous weekend. Team principal Eric Latino and son Matt recorded career-best performances at the legendary sea-level facility, with Matt advancing to the quarter-finals. Greg Anderson’s victory also moved him back into the Pro Stock points lead.
In Top Fuel, Doug Kalitta defeated Leah Pruett in the final round, while Funny Car honours went to Kalitta Air teammate J.R. Todd. The victories completed a nitro sweep for Kalitta Motorsports at the NHRA Northwest Nationals.
Both Spencer Hyde and the Rob Flynn-orchestrated Maddi Gordon / Ron Capps Nitro entries qualified ‘top half’ in their respective fields but were upset in the first round.
British Columbia’s Shawn Cowie won the Alcohol Dragster title, defeating Washington State’s Joey Severance while recording low elapsed time and top speed Cowie’s quest for a remarkable third world championship.
