(BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Aug. 16, 2017) – George Morin, Canada’s first ever Superbike National Champion, has been announced as the Grand Marshal for this weekend’s Superbike Doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), August 18-20. Canada’s biggest motorcycle road racing event of the year features the nation’s top motorcycle road racers as they compete for the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship, as well as a full slate of off-track, family-friendly activities including Jordan Szoke’s Extreme Show presented by GP Bikes.

Morin, who was inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2015, had a tremendous career that included securing the first ever Canadian National Championship in 1979. Prior to that, Morin accomplished a feat that has not been matched to date – in 1977 at St Felicien, Quebec he secured championships in three different classes including Expert Open Production (on a Kawasaki KZ1000), 400cc production (on a Yamaha) and 125cc (on a Honda). Morin retired from competition in 1982 with eight National Championships. Morin then moved into team management and worked for manufacturers including Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki helping to guide champions including Michel Mercier, Jeff Gaynor, Miguel Duhamel, and Steve Crevier.

“It’s a great privilege to be named the Grand Marshal,” said Morin. “It will be nice to share this moment with friends and family. I am looking forward to watching such talented racers like Jordan Szoke and challengers compete for the championship.

While 11-time National Champion Szoke will looking to secure his third consecutive (and 12th overall) Mopar Pro Superbike Championship, his talented team of Extreme Show riders will perform a high-adrenaline freestyle motocross show on Saturday and Sunday. On-track, national titles will also be secured in other classes including Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike, Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike, Shoei Helmets Amateur Sport Bike and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 Racing Series.

Various ticket packages are available including single-day tickets, general & RV camping, and a VIP hospitality package for those who would like to be closer to the action in style. For more information, please visit canadiantiremotorsportpark.com.
