Sounding Off – Cameron Hayley:
What makes the mile-and-a-half Chicago track so unique?
“Chicago is unique because it has that curve down the back straightaway, and the surface is wearing out. It’s getting rougher and rougher. There is a pretty nasty bump in the center of Turns 3 and 4, and we struggled with last year. Overall, I was really comfortable with the race track last year. We ran pretty decent, but all I can remember from Chicago is fuel mileage. We definitely didn’t nail our fuel mileage, ended up running out of gas at the end of the race, and finished 16th. Hopefully, the caution clock will help with that this year.”
News & Notes:
Chassis Chatter…The No. 13 ThorSport Racing team will unload chassis No. 62 for Friday night’s American Ethanol E15 225 at Chicagoland Speedway. This chassis is brand new for 2016, and will make its debut on Friday night in the “Windy City.”
Intermediate Track Facts: In 15 career starts on an Intermediate-style track (1.5-miles), Hayley has two top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
Chicago Rewind – 2015… Hayley started from the seventh position, had an Average Running Position of 10.7, but finished 16th due to a fuel gamble late in the 150-lap event.
Chase Status – One to Go… With only one race remaining until the cut-off for the inaugural NCWTS Chase, Hayley, who is 10th in points, will have to earn his career-first win at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday night.
