May 22, 2013- With the Victoria Day Holiday weekend, Ryan Arbuthnot and the Arbuthnot Racing team had a busy schedule planned out last week. First up was the second week of the season at Brockville Speedway, followed by the season opening 100 lap Mr. DIRTcar/Canadian Nationals Series race at Cornwall Motor Speedway. From there, the team would make a quick stop back home, and return to the highway for the long journey to Merrittville Speedway for the second round of the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.
It was another tough night for Arbuthnot Racing at Brockville. While running in sixth place in the opening laps of the race, A multi car incident left Ryan with no escape, and would suffer some damage to his car. After quick pit stop for some repair work he returned to the track before the race resumed, but would have to restart from the rear of the field. Although the damage still hindered the performance of the car, he was able to recover and post a 12th place finish,
On Sunday, the Arbuthnot team made the trip to Cornwall Speedway for the first round of the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series, and the points from that race also counted towards the Canadian Nationals Series. Not long after they arrived at the track, the rain began to fall, forcing track and series officials to postpone the event. The Canadian Nationals 100 lap race will now be run this coming Sunday, while the DIRTcar Series will tag onto the second Canadian Nationals race, schedule for August 4th.
The team took advantage of the early night at Cornwall and returned home to get the car prepared for Merrittville Speedway the following night. The next morning they were back on the road for the five hour trip to Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario. After struggling to a seventh place finish in the qualifying heat race, Ryan rebounded to score a second place result in the last chance qualifier, earning a spot in the 100 lap main event. Ryan started the race from 22nd place, and after 100 laps of racing, he finished in the same position.
“It was a busy weekend for sure”, claims Arbuthnot. “We have had a bit of a tough start at Brockville, but we were able to recover to post an ok finish both times, so it could have been much worse. We were disappointed to get rained out at Cornwall, as it would have been fun to see where we stack up against all those great drivers that were there on one of our favorite tracks. Merrittville was a different story, and we were happy to make the show, as a lot of very good cars went home early”.
This coming weekend, Arbuthnot Racing will be back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night. They will have the Modified as well as the Vintage Modified, as Steve Arbuthnot makes his first start of the 2013 Season in the Ford Dingwall Vintage Series. Arbuthnot will be debuting his car, that has been worked on throughout the winter. Other than a few practice laps at Brighton last month, this will be the first time on the track for this “new” Vintage car under race conditions. On Sunday, Ryan will return to Cornwall Motor Speedway for the rescheduled 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race.
