@targanl •CLARENVILLE (September 13, 2016) – A day filled with blue skies welcomed over 50 competitors on the Burin peninsula for the second day of competition in the annual tarmac rally.

The competition kicked off in a timely manner with today’s rally beginning in Boat Harbour with perfect weather and driving conditions.

The 2016 Lamborghini Huracan of Sugan Krisnarajah and Jacky Yang had a mechanical issue on the second stage of the day, where he swapped out his vehicle for his 2007 Ferrari F430. The fan favorite is expected to return to the stage tomorrow in the Huracan, which has been repaired. Coming out of Harbour Mille on Stage Four, a 1989 Porsche 911 C4 driven by Robert Patterson and Don McNeil went off the road which resulted in some minor cosmetic damage. After a brief assessment, the team was able to rejoin the competition for the following stage in Grand le Pierre. Peter Guagenti, driver of a 2002 BMW M3, had an engine failure before leaving Terrenceville, subsequently, not allowing him to complete this last stage of today’s competition.

The town of Terrenceville, the newest addition to the Targa list of communities, welcomed the event with open arms. Huge crowds gathered for a barbeque at the town’s volunteer fire station while lining the roads in the community to watch the two stages held within the town limits.

Sugan also generously donated funds to the fire department so that it could purchase a new piece of equipment for the town’s fire hall.

In the Classic division, after two days of competition, there is still a four way tie for first place between Jack Rogers, Iain Dobson, Bert Howerton, and Newfoundlander Richard Atkinson. In Modern division, John Hume Jr. has moved into first place, with Newfoundlander Billy Anderson a very close second. In Open division, it’s still a three-way tie between defending Open champion Jean Luc Bergeron, Andrew Comrie-Picard, and Mike Davenport. And in the Grand Touring division, John Hume Sr. has taken firm hold of first place.
