CLARINGTON, ON (August 26, 2018)- Robin Buck made his return to racing in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Bowmanville, Ontario. Piloting the #28 OMVIC Dodge Buck was being patient and waiting to make his move in the late stages. Regrettably others weren’t as patient and made contact with Buck resulting in his early exit from the event.
Making his first ever laps in the #28 OMVIC Dodge during the practice session on Saturday Buck was mostly pleased with the car but there were understandably some minor issues.
“It was a little tight in,” said the driver, just some minor things but I was pleased with the car. We didn’t get a good run or we’d have been quicker,” he added.
Rain showers washed out the qualifying session so by rule Buck would start 11th for the 51-lap feature race based on practice times, as per the NASCAR rulebook. With thousands of laps around the famed racetrack Buck knows the key to success is not being too aggressive too early and that was his approach with the #28 OMVIC Dodge.
Through the first half of the race Buck maintained a consistent pace in the #28 OMVIC Dodge and moved into the top-ten. A hiccup during pit stops meant Buck would serve a drive through penalty but he would maneuver the car forward once again and in the second half of the race be back running in the top-ten.
On a lap 38 restart Buck was running seventh when the #28 OMVIC Dodge was struck from behind. The impact severe enough to send Buck sliding off course and hard into the outside tire barrier. The car severely damaged, his day was over.
While he was physically okay Buck was obviously disappointed.
“I was in a good spot in that train of cars, a couple of the guys up front were pretty aggressive so I was happy to be back there to take advantage as things played out” explained the driver. “However one of the drivers behind us got a little impatient and that was it, done before we could really show all we had in the car”.
“I want to thank everyone at OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) for the opportunity and I hope we can partner together again in the future. Thanks also to the great group at DJK Racing for all their efforts preparing the car”.
