SENOIA, GA- Southern Super Series champion Bubba Pollard is set to kick start his 2015 campaign on January 3rd at New Smyrna Speedway, when he takes to the track for the 29th running of the Red Eye 100.
The event promises to pit Pollard against some of the top Super Late Model talent from central Florida and beyond in what should be a fitting season opener for the Pollard Motorsports team.
“Any time you go down to New Smyrna, you know you’re going to be up against some stiff competition,” says Pollard. “There aren’t a lot of teams down there that don’t take their programs seriously. It’s a fun spot to go and race at”
2015’s edition of the Red Eye 100 will mark Pollard’s first career appearance in the January race, although the Georgia veteran is no stranger to high-prestige events at the half-mile, having earned a top-5 finish in the 2013 running of the lauded Florida Governor’s Cup.
“New Smyrna is a win that every racer wants,” explains Pollard. “It’s an unforgiving track and it attracts some of the best of the best competitors. Any win at New Smyrna is something to be proud of”
“We’re looking forward to getting unloaded and seeing what we’ve got,” continues Pollard. “We’ve been doing a lot of work in the shop since we came home from the Derby. Our off-season doesn’t last long, and we’ve been trying to make the most of it”
“There are a couple big shows on our schedule in the next few weeks, so hopefully we can get our legs under us early, pick up a couple wins and set the tone for the season”
With a fulltime return to the Southern Super Series in the cards for Pollard – as well as several CARS Super Late Model Tour events – the 2015 season plans to be a busy one for the family-run operation.
“No matter how many races you plan on running, it’s always important to get off on the right foot at the beginning of the season,” says the third-generation competitor. “It’s especially true when you have a long schedule ahead of you. The mental aspect of this sport is so important. If you can get on a roll early, the rides home just feel shorter and the nights in the shop seem a little easier”
“No one wants to start the year off on a bad note,” closes Pollard matter-of-factly.
