February 11, 2015- Once they’ve achieve a certain level of success, it’s hard to keep a weekly short track racer away from their chosen vocation.

For Bryan Sudsbury, his greatest motorsports triumph was the 2012 Late Model track championship at Peterborough Speedway. A year later, the 26 year old racer from Bowmanville, Ontario had a strong season, but fell short of back-to-back titles and finished third in the final standings. Sudsbury, who ran a handful of 2014 events in a Mini Stock says that once the racing bug bites, it’s hard to think of anything else.

“Spending a year on the sidelines was the last thing I wanted to do, but there just wasn’t time to put a program together they way we’d hoped,” said Sudsbury. “Racing the Mini Stock kept the fire burning, but it didn’t compare with running your own deal on a weekly basis. Heading into 2015, we’ll have everything set to roll for opening night and should be ready to contend for another championship in a very competitive field.”

Sudsbury’s new hot rod, carrying his traditional #29 in honour of his house number and the date of his birthday is prepped behind the scenes and maintained at the racetrack by the driver himself, his father Brian Sudsbury and mother Judy Sudsbury, Chad Deighton, Amber Karens and Ryann Deighton. Like many short trackers, the go kart and Mini Stock graduate – who works as a crane operator – says the support he’s received from family and friends over the years help keep everything in perspective.

“Both my parents have been a huge backer of my racing since the early days,” said the driver. “My mother makes sure everything is ready on raceday before we roll out of the driveway. Once we get to the track, she charts my laps during practice and the race and makes sure the officials are kept up-to-date with anything that might change from week-to-week with the team.”

Away from the track, Sudsbury likes snowmobiling, off-roading and going to the cottage. He says he enjoys everything about the racing experience, from the fans in the grandstands, his fellow drivers and the track promoters. As far as long term goals, he’d like to run at 5 Flags Speedway and compete in the Snowball Derby against one of his favourite drivers, Bubba Pollard of Senoia, Georgia; a guy he says can really wheel a racecar and also knows how to have a good time.
