Bowmanville, ON- Dwight Brown took another step towards repeating as Ontario Modified Racing Series powered by Techtonix champion on June 15, sweeping to victory in both of his twin 10 lap qualifying heats, and then leading championship rival Rick Warnes (#90) to the checkered flag to secure his second OMRS feature race win of the season.
It was the second ‘Hat Trick’ for Brown in OMRS competition this year.
Taking the green flag from the inside of the third row, the Beeton, ON resident carefully planned his charge towards the front.
“The guys in front of me were racing pretty hard between themselves. I figured if I was patient, I could get through the bunch unscathed,” explained Brown.
Advancing one cautious position per lap, by the fourth tour of the half-mile Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Speedway, Brown had powered his #2 Bourque Transmission Modified up to the rear nerf bar of pole sitter Warnes. On Lap 6, Brown crossed the stripe in a dead heat with Warnes, but was able to edge away as the duo sped through the first turn.
Once in control of the race Brown paced himself, maintaining his advantage over Warnes’ purple #90 in the ‘Clean and Green’ run to the Lap 25 checkered flag.
Chad Strawn, aboard his #77 Mod and track newcomer Nick lees (#09) enjoyed a spirited, race long dice, and following two full, side-by-side laps, Lees eventually emerged with third place, a position he held to the end of the contest. As the final car to finish on the lead lap, Strawn settled for a fourth place result, with the #88 of Ryan Dick completing the top five finishers.
OMRS regulars Darren Kearnan (#46) and Rob Warnes (#95) were unable to make the feature sprint, both of their cars suffering from motor issues.
