BROCKVILLE, ON – On a night where the first four members were inducted into the Brockville Ontario Speedway Hall of Fame, it was a local teenager that stole the show. Rookie Johnathon Ferguson scored his first ever Sportsman feature win on Saturday night at the Beast of the East.
Ferguson and Jessica Power started on the front row of the 25-lap event with the youngster leading almost every lap as Power was able to briefly nudge in front on an early restart.
The youngster, however, would not be denied as he calmly and methodically held onto the top spot by a car length or two the rest of the way for a very popular victory and a rather large celebration on the front straight. Power was second in front of Steve Barber, Ryan Poole and John Mills.
Lee Gill prevailed for the second time in three weeks in the 30-lap Modified main event. Gill picked up the top spot from Bobby Herrington around the midway point and zoomed away from the field. Pat O Brien made some nifty moves to pick up the runner up spot but didnt have time to catch the number 7. Tim O Brien was third followed by Danny O Brien and points leader Dale Planck, who charged from the back after an early spin to finish fifth.
The Mod-Lites made their second appearance of the year at Brockville with Paul Klager holding off Brian Green late in the race for the victory, Jeff May was a strong third. Derek Cryderman made it 3 wins in 3 weeks in the Street Stock division taking the 15 lap run over Kevin Fetterly Jr, Brock Cullen, Derrick Eaton and Beau Miller. Quincy Roberts continues to turn heads in the Rookie class scoring another victory. He didn’t manage to pick up many points on leader Joe McNichols who was second followed by first timer Justin Desrosier, Dwight Feltham and Chris Bakker.
During the intermission, the first four members of the Napa Auto Parts Hall of Fame were introduced legendary drivers Marcel LaFrance, Dave Heaslip and Tony Blake were joined by builder Bob Lodge in the first class voted in by the local race fans via a Finish Line Web Design poll.
