SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Second-generation driver Brittney Gresel will roll through the Sunset Speedway gates for the final time this weekend, eager to close out her 2014 season with a strong performance in one of the province’s most talked about events.
The ‘Velocity 250’ weekend – Sunset Speedway’s Crown Jewel weekend – will pit Gresel against some of the very best that the Ltd. Late Model division has to offer. When asked about the spike in competition, it’s clear Gresel relishes the opportunity.
“I just love competing”, says the oft-positive Gresel. “If we can go from a 22-car field to a 28-car field, that’s totally fine with me. The more cars we have here, the tougher it is to make the A Main and the better show is for the fans”
“For all the time and money we put into our program, there’s no sense cherry-picking where to race”, continues Gresel. “We want to compete against the best. We want to test ourselves. So, it’s a best case scenario when the top talent in the province comes to our home track”
Gresel’s first full season at Sunset has not been without its speed-bumps, though the Sauble Beach, ON driver says that a strong finish will make it all worthwhile.
“My whole team has learned so much this year, it’s been a phenomenal experience”, says the personable youngster. “This is the best weekly field I’ve ever raced against. We’ve struggled a little more than we would have liked to, but if we can make the A Main on Sunday, and walk out with a top-10 after 75-laps, we’d be ecstatic”
“August and September were tough for us”, continues Gresel. “The weekly grind kind of caught up to us. We had some parts failures and a lot of equipment damage. It felt some weeks as though we were just spinning our wheels. Thankfully, we’ve been able to put a lot of time into our maintenance program the last couple weeks, and should have a strong piece for this weekend”
Details for September 27th and 28th’s show can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
