SAUBLE BEACH, ON- After racing the entirety of her career at Sauble Speedway, second generation driver Brittney Gresel has fit in nicely in Sunset Speedway’s profoundly competitive Limited Late Model division.
“When we decided to race Sunset fulltime, we really didn’t know what to expect”, admitted Gresel. “I’ve never put together a full program at a speedway other than Sauble, so it was a bit of a crap shoot”
“Thankfully, we’ve been able to learn on the fly. My team’s been awesome, and so have the other Sunset competitors. I feel as though we’re improving with each passing week, which is exactly where we hoped we would be at this point in the season”
Gresel currently sits 10th in points, trailing a litany of former champions and Crown Jewel winners, and has finished outside of the top-15 only once this season.
“You definitely know that you’re in the deep end of the pool here”, said Gresel with a smile. “These guys out here really are the best of the best. Drivers that I’ve been watching for as long as I’ve been going to the speedway. When you get walk out with a top-15 here, you really feel like you’ve done something”
Despite her early run of success, Gresel is quick to note her focus on continually improving as the 2014 season approaches its midway portion.
“We haven’t plateaued yet. Not by a long shot”, stressed Gresel. “We’re working constantly to get faster and learn the track. We’re as small a team as it gets. Most weekends it’s just myself and [Crew Chief] Brandon Johnston at the speedway. But I’d like to think what we lose in manpower, we make up in determination”
“It’s close to three hours to haul here from home, but I don’t mind one bit”, continued Gresel. “This is the nicest speedway in the province, it has the best drivers and everyone has been so welcoming. I wish I had made the switch sooner”
Brittney’s 2014 program is made possible thanks to Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, Brittney’s Hair Studio, RE/MAX of Grey Bruce, Spira Fire Protection and Brandon’s Landscapes.
