BROWNSBURG, IN- Former OSCAAR Super Late Model champion Brandon Watson posted an 8th place finish in his first career ARCA/CRA Super Series appearance at Lucas Oil Raceway, for the EDCO Welding 100.
“Any time we can get a top-10 in our first start at a speedway, it’s encouraging”, smiled Watson. “This place is a lot of fun. I would race here every week if I could.”
The Stayner, ON product started 18th in the 100-lap contest, and wasted little time moving towards the front.
“We didn’t really know what to expect for time trials”, admitted Watson. “We would have loved to get a little more out of the car, but that’s kind of been the story of our season. The team made some great adjustments before the A Main, and we were able to start moving forward almost immediately”
Watson’s 18th-to-8th run earned his team the ‘C.V. Products Hard Charger Award’, and sets the 21-year old up with momentum entering the lauded Winchester 400 on October 12th.
“Every time we back this car out of the trailer, we feel a little more comfortable”, said Watson. “Being able to track our improvement is an awesome feeling. We’ve put a lot of hours into this car, and seeing it pay off just acts as motivation for us”
“The days in which we were struggling feel like they were a million years ago”, continued Watson. “Right now, we’re all about improving in every single event, and figuring out a strategy for Winchester”
“It’s truly one of the Crown Jewels of Super Late Model racing. If we could put together a strong run at Winchester, I think it could define our entire season”
