ACTON, ON- Reigning Sunset Speedway Mini Stock champion Brandon McFerran will be back in the Super Stock division this Saturday, August 1st. ‘The Astronaut’ has been again called on by current division point leader Cayden Lapcevich to wheel the Tim Hortons-sponsored No. 76 while Lapcevich turns his efforts to NASCAR Canadian Tire Series action in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
“I can’t thank Jeff and Cayden enough for having this level of confidence in me,” smiles McFerran when asked about his second outing in the familiar No. 76. “Their team is one of the most well organized I’ve ever seen, and to be a part of it – even for just a night – is an absolute honour. This car is a work of art. I can’t wait to strap back into it”
McFerran currently boasts a perfect record in the wildly competitive class, having won his divisional debut substituting for Lapcevich on June 13th.
“Winning in our first race working together was so much more than I could have ever imagined,” remembers the multi-time Mini Stock feature victor. “I was just coming in to help score Cayden some points – and I got comfortable in the car right out of the box. Our plan is to try and find that comfort zone on Saturday night and build off of everything that we learned in June”
When asked about the elevated level of competition, McFerran was careful not to mince words.
“This Super Stock division is a different beast, man,” laughs the high-school student. “These guys are so incredibly tough to compete against. That was the first thing that absolutely blew me away. Some of these teams have been doing this for a long time and they know every way to make life difficult when you’re trying to pass them. You have to work for every single inch. No one is out here to give you a free look”
And, although he would love to take down back-to-back Super Stock victories, McFerran maintains the overall goal for the weekend is to benefit the Lapcevich program and to conserve equipment wherever possible.
“We have to walk that line between taking care of our equipment, scoring this team some points and gaining as much experience as we can,” explains ‘The Astronaut’. “The Super Stock division is absolutely something that Dad and I are looking at investing in sometime soon, so this experience is invaluable for us. Hopefully I can get this number 76 to the front on Saturday and give this team something to be proud of when they get home from Quebec.”
Brandon McFerran’s Super Stock efforts this weekend are supported by Tim Hortons,Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Springers Meats, EPIC Racewear and Troy Cove Marine.
