ACTON, ON- Defending Sunset Speedway Mini Stock champion Brandon McFerran will enter tonight’s event with hopes of earning his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event since June 13th.
“I can’t lie, it’s a weird feeling going almost two months without a win,” shrugs McFerran ahead of this evening’s 25-lap event. “It’s not exactly something I want to get used to, but it definitely shows how competitive this division has gotten. We’re working twice as hard as we were last season just to keep our nose in the fight”
‘The Astronaut’ will have the opportunity to break his recent winless streak tonight, when the Graham Landscape Limited Mini Stocks return to Sunset for another NWAAS-sanctioned event. And, with only 5 points nights remaining, McFerran knows a strong finish could go a long way.
“Were coming into tonight with the same attitude we always have,” explains the fan favourite. “We just want to run up front for as long as we can, score a top-5 and try to bank as many points as possible. The schedule’s starting to run out, and every position matters that much more at this time of the year”
“A win this week would be huge for us,” continues McFerran. “I can’t remember this division ever being this intense. Everyone has stepped their programs up. It’s tough to run at the front these days and even harder to win”
And, although his team has not spent the time in victory lane that they became accustomed to in 2014, McFerran insists he has not stopped working with Crew Chief Tim Ellas to improve his family-owned No. 64.
“I can’t lie and say it’s not tough to go this long between wins, but it just lets us know that we have to keep doing our homework,” says the 16-year old. “We’re working nonstop to get back to victory lane. Tim [Ellas] and my Dad have been going through all kinds of different combinations trying to find one that the car likes. Hopefully we can hit on something today and this car back up front where it belongs.”
Brandon McFerran’s 2015 season would not be possible without the support of Peter D. Laird Transport, Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, Road Ranger, East End Car Wash, B&B Towing, Creative Edge Graphics, Finish Line Painting & Restoration, DS McClure Farms, AMD Electric, Ultimate Finishes and Matalco.
