BAKERSFIELD, CA- Hot on the heels of a top-10 performance in the Lucas Oil Modified Series’ trip to Irwindale Speedway on June 27th, freshman Blaine Perkins will be back behind the wheel in a tour event this Saturday, July 25th at Salt Lake City’s Rocky Mountain Raceway.
“This is some of the best competition you’re going to find anywhere on the West Coast,” says an excited Perkins when asked about Saturday’s event. “They’re expecting close to 40 cars. With a roster like that, we’re most definitely going to have our work cut out for us”
“It’s an honor to run with these guys,” continues Perkins. “I’m feeling like I’m walking into college every time the lift gate on the trailer comes down at one of these tour events. You learn so much just by keeping your eyes and ears open around some of these teams”
Perkins will make the 10+ hour haul from his home in Bakersfield, CA to Salt Lake City, UT for the first time, this weekend. And while stepping out of their comfort zone could impact many rookie competitors in an adverse way, Perkins explains the adventure is all part of the plan for his freshman year on the tour.
“I’ve never been to Salt Lake before, so this is going to be a learning experience from start to finish,” explains the well-spoken 15-year old.
“These are the kind of events that really show you where your development is at. We’re going to be racing against the track as well as our competition. So, this will be an ideal opportunity for us to see what we’re doing right and what we need to work on a little more”
With his impressive 9th place finish at Irwindale in his hip pocket, Perkins presents an air of confidence when asked about Saturday’s engagement.
“Believe me, we wouldn’t be going all the way to Utah if we didn’t think we could put together a strong outing,” says Perkins as he flashes his trademark wide smile. “I respect every single driver on this entry list – and I truly believe we have enough to run alongside them all day long. We’re bringing everything that we have this weekend”
“Our strategy is to take care of our equipment and learn all that we can,” adds the rising star. “We’re not aiming to be the hero. We hope to just conserve our stuff long enough to be in the conversation at the end. If we have a shot at a top-5 with ten laps to go, I’ll be a happy guy”
“I’m bringing some friends and family from California to experience it with me – so it’s going to be an awesome time from start to finish. We’re also looking forward to having Associated Food Stores of Salt Lake City and Welch’s on-board with us for the first time as well. Any time you’re able to bring a new marketing partner to the speedway for the first time it’s a pretty special feeling. We’re counting the hours until race day.”
Blaine Perkins’ 2015 season is fueled by Associated Food Stores of Salt Lake City, Welch’s, Four Star Fruit, KMC Wheels and Campbell Motorsports.
